Starbucks Lovers is a new body of photographic work by artist and filmmaker Pau S. Pescador. The title of the series is a reference to the 2014 hit single Blank Space, by singer and songwriter Taylor Swift, upon the song's release the chorus was misheard by the general public, hearing not "a list of ex-lovers" instead "Starbucks Lovers". Pescador is interested in this mondegreen as it accidentally admits to pop music's continuous commercialization of romance. This mishearing of sounds is reminiscent in title to artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres famous work Perfect Lovers, if paired with a suburban mall. Pescador ponders, what is a Starbucks Lover? Someone who loves the famous coffee conglomerate or maybe it's a couple who finds love within a commercial shopping experience? One may never know. 

In Starbucks Lovers, materials are collaged together and through multiple iterations of rephotographing and printing they become a single photographic work. The artist plays with both found imagery, personal photographs and studio detritus to construct visual scenes and atmospheres built around the potential pairings of objects. Do these unique objects contain direct relationships once paired or will the relationship between these open signifiers never be? In the great big world of coffee chains.....will one ever find true love?
